The Los Angeles Dodgers find themselves in an early hole in the National League Championship Series after Sunday’s narrow loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. With Milwaukee now holding a 1-0 lead in the best-of-seven series, the defending World Series champions will look to pull even on Monday before the series heads back to Los Angeles. First pitch from American Family Field is scheduled for 5 p.m. ET on FOX.

Sunday’s opener featured a highly anticipated pitching matchup between Tarik Skubal and Jacob Misiorowski, but it was Milwaukee’s ability to capitalize on a handful of opportunities that ultimately decided the game.

Los Angeles struck first in the second inning when Andy Pages delivered an RBI single to score Shohei Ohtani. The Dodgers made Misiorowski work through a 35-pitch inning and loaded the bases, but couldn’t turn that early pressure into a bigger lead.

Milwaukee answered in the fourth when Brice Turang connected on a solo home run off Skubal to tie the game. An inning later, Luis Lara singled home Garrett Mitchell for the go-ahead run, putting the Brewers ahead 2-1.

The Dodgers had their chances to respond, but three double plays and nine runners left on base proved costly. Milwaukee’s bullpen handled the final 4.2 innings without allowing a run, protecting the one-run advantage and securing the series opener.

The Dodgers will now need to find a way to solve Milwaukee’s pitching staff and avoid returning to Dodger Stadium facing a two-game deficit.

Dodgers vs. Brewers Prediction

Los Angeles Dodgers Moneyline (-140): Losing Game 1 with Skubal on the mound was a significant setback for Los Angeles, but we’re backing the Dodgers to respond Monday behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto and prevent Milwaukee from taking complete control of the series.

Yamamoto has established himself as one of baseball‘s most reliable postseason pitchers, particularly away from home. The Dodgers right-handerĀ is 5-0 with a 1.42 ERA and 40 strikeouts across six career road playoff appearances.

That includes a dominant performance at American Family Field during last year’s NLCS, when Yamamoto threw a complete game against Milwaukee, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out seven in a 5-1 Dodgers victory.

His success against the Brewers carried into the 2026 regular season. Yamamoto went 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in two starts against Milwaukee, surrendering only two earned runs over 13 innings while recording 12 strikeouts.

With the series heading back to Los Angeles after Monday’s contest, we’re backing Yamamoto to deliver another quality postseason outing and the Dodgers to do enough offensively to return home with the NLCS tied 1-1.
